The Second Look

Already on an IRS deal? Make sure it’s the right one.

Plenty of people come to us after they have already signed up for a payment plan, been turned down for a settlement, or tried to handle the IRS alone. Bring us what you have. We will review your notices and your current arrangement for free and tell you plainly whether there is a better path: a lower settlement, penalty relief, or a plan that fits your life.

  • You are paying an installment plan you can barely afford
  • Your Offer in Compromise was rejected
  • Penalties make up a big part of what you owe
  • Another firm took a fee and went quiet

The Threshold Column

How much do you owe? Here is what can happen next.

Tax debt does not just grow. At certain amounts, the IRS and New York gain new powers over your wages, your license and your passport. Pick the range closest to your balance.

How much tax do you owe, including penalties and interest?

$20,000 – $61,999

You’re far from alone.

  • About half of the 26 million taxpayers with IRS problems owe $20,000 or more
  • Federal tax liens can be filed against you
  • Wage garnishment and bank levies become more likely

Our first move: This is where strategy matters most: Offer in Compromise, installment agreement or penalty abatement, compared side by side.

Thresholds as described on our passport revocation, NY license suspension and services pages. Your situation may differ; the consultation is where we confirm it.

What does JLD Tax do?

JLD Tax is a Union City, New Jersey firm dedicated to resolving IRS and state tax problems for individuals and businesses: back tax settlement, audit representation, payroll tax problems, tax liens and levies, passport revocation and New York license suspension. The team includes a CPA and Certified Tax Resolution Specialist and a tax attorney.

Is the first consultation really free?

Yes. Whether or not you hire us, the first consultation is free and confidential. We frame your tax problem and suggest ways to resolve it permanently, and anything you tell us stays confidential.

How do your fees work?

Representation is on a fixed fee, set up front and scaled to the work your case actually needs. You will know what we will do, how we will do it and what it will cost before you decide. Payment plans are available.

Who should call right away?

Anyone receiving IRS notices, anyone whose wages are being garnished or bank account has been levied, anyone with a federal tax lien, anyone with unfiled tax returns, and any business that owes payroll taxes.

Do I need a tax attorney for an audit?

Not always. For many audits a CPA is a strong choice and more reasonably priced than an attorney. JLD has both, so your case goes to the right person.

Can the IRS really take my passport?

Yes. If you owe $62,000 or more including penalties and interest, and you are not in a payment plan or settlement agreement, the IRS can certify the debt to the State Department, which can revoke your passport or block its renewal.

Where do you meet clients?

Our main office is at 512 42nd St, 2nd Fl, Union City, NJ 07087, with a second office in Short Hills, a summer office in Barnegat Light and a Manhattan office at 1412 Broadway by appointment. Call (201) 604-2432 to schedule an in-person meeting.
